Celebrity Media United Nations Headquarters Report: The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) successfully held its 2024 Partnership Forum at the UN Headquarters in New York on January 30th. Themed “Strengthening the 2030 Agenda and Eradicating Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises: Implementing Sustainable, Resilient, and Innovative Solutions,” the forum aimed to address the current global crises through strengthening global partnerships and innovative solutions.
The forum specifically highlighted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be reviewed by the 2024 High-Level Political Forum, including Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Achieving these goals is crucial for advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In accordance with Resolution 75/290A, this Partnership Forum focused on exchanging new ideas, expectations, and priorities for the future work of ECOSOC and the High-Level Political Forum. The meeting invited representatives from non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders to showcase and discuss proactive actions taken by countries and all relevant stakeholders through innovative partnerships. These actions aim to mobilize commitments and actions to advance the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and address new challenges
Key insights from the forum video include:
Strengthening partnerships in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda should include civil society, customary, and informal justice mechanisms.
Utilizing the rule of law to address the intersection of crises of climate change, food security, and conflict, as SDG 16 is a foundational element for addressing these crises.
The need to recognize and address the link between food security, the rule of law, and climate change to tackle global crises.
More partnerships are needed to deliver multidimensional whole-of-society and whole-of-government solutions, serving as a core member of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the coordinator of the Secretariat of the United Nations Network on Migration.
Young people, marginalized groups, and communities should not be spoken for but should speak for themselves.
The successful convening of this forum marks an important step by the international community in strengthening global partnerships and innovative solutions to jointly address multiple crises and advance the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
